According to the social welfare act and the public health act, society has the ultimate responsibility for the supply of support and help needed, to those residing in the municipality.
Sign language is of central importance for our community, self esteem and our cultural identity. A signing environment is therefore a necessity for all signing (profoundly) deaf. This need exists throughout the whole life, but can manifest itself evidently in old age. Communication in sign language is a necessity for elderly profoundly deaf.
Elderly profoundly deaf should have influence and be able to make decisions about their own situation and feel safe and have the right to a good care on their own terms.
