Deaf in Sweden
Sign language interpreter when so is needed at work
Through information and a hightened awareness among the employers, the working situation of the deaf is facilitated. By taking advantage of the new technique a good working environment and new areas of work are created.
It is important that a workplace where deaf persons are employed receives information about the importance of sign language, the task of the interpreter, the significance of interpreting services, deaf culture etc. This can be done by the deaf themselves, by the advisory consultant of the deaf from the National Swedish Labour Market Board or another suitable person.
The same information and education that is provided for the hearing must be made available for the deaf, primarily by the employer´s ordering one when so is needed. With the right technical equipment the work is made easier for the deaf.
Today there are text telephones, videophones, mobile phones for the deaf, visual signals instead of auditive signals.
